Hormone Therapy--A.M.A. Journal says Nix. Wall St. Journal says Yes
The Journal of the American Medical Assn. reported on April 4, 2007:"Conclusions--Women who initiated hormone therapy closer to menopause tended to have reduced CHD 'coronary heart disease] risk compared with an increase in CHD risk among women more distant from menopause, but this trend test did not meet our criterion for statistical significance." Emphasis added.
The Wall Street Journal front page story on the same date was authored by a writer who has consistently refused to include scientific findings in her reports.
Her article was headlined, "New Study Reassures Most Users of Hormones."
The subhead read, "For Newly Menopausal, There's No Heart Risk..."
The writer may not realize that having no statistical significance means that it has no value at all. We are not surprised, having experienced her blindness to scientific evidence in the past.
