A Food
That Reduces Appetite
The Journal of Nutrition, vol. 133, 2003, reports CCK*,
a natural substance produced in endocrine cells and secreted into the
bloodstream, "suppresses food intake by inducing a feeling of satiety
'fullness.]..." Soy apparently induces CCK.
Even more promising
is that "feeding a raw soy protein diet has been shown to 'actually] reduce
body weight gain." Researchers have also found that B-conglycinin, one
of the major components of soy protein, is effective in reducing...tryglyceride
and cholesterol levels in 'animals.] Apparently, it is this substance
that also plays an important role in inducing CCK, the appetite
suppressant.

DETAILS: By eating
raw soy beans, it would seem, one would get maximal benefit. Many
supermarkets now sell imported raw frozen soy beans. Many folks
enjoy eating them, defrosted or not, uncooked. The unheated protease
inhibitors in raw beans are anti-cancer as well. This has been reported
by Dr. Ann Kennedy at the U. of Penn. Med. School, and by Dr. Walter
Troll, formerly of N.Y.U. Medical School.
