Alternative Treatment for Cirrhosis?

"We studied 125, 580 multiethnic members of a comprehensive prepaid health plan without liver disease...

"Subsequently,...330 of them were diagnosed with liver cirrhosis...

"...relative risks of alcoholic cirrhosis for those who drank less than 1 cup a day of coffee were '30% risk--low] 1 to 3 cups 'slightly lower yet effective, but almost zero risk for those who drank 4 or more cups per day of coffee.] Emphasis added.

For those who developed nonalcoholic cirrhosis risks were somewhat higher, though still low-risk for those who drank 4 or more cups of coffee per day.

Editor's note: By any measure, drinking coffee must be considered Alternative Medicine, even though it may be surprising to some of its adherents. This report received scant attention from the popular media, inured as they are against Alternative Medicine, even when published in an "establishment" and respected journal.

From: Archives of Internal Medicine, (pub. by the A.M.A.,) vol. 166, 2006. By: Drs. Kaltsky, Morton, Udaltsova and Friedman, Divisions of Res. & Gastronomy, Kaiser Med. Program, Oakland, CAL.
