In the journal Menopause of May, 2008, black cohosh in altenative health, was shown to have an effect in the body's nervous system toward reducing depression in post-menopausal women.
---
For women "...those with mild symptoms [as hot flashes and night sweats] or those who cannot or will not take HRT [hormone replacement therapy]...it may be appropriate [as alternative medicine.]"

From Journal of Manag. Care Pharm., vol. 3, 2008. By Dr. E. M. Umland, Jefferson College of Pharm., Thomas Jefferson U., 130 S. 9th St., Phila. PA 19107, USA
---
"Results from carefully designed studies on herbal treatments for...menopausal symptoms never addressed specifically safety issues. Sporadic reports show dangerous adverse effects of these [soy, black cohosh, dong quai, ginseng and vitamin E alternative medicine]...preparations as well as hazardous interactions between botanic [alternative medicine] and conventional medications."

By: Drs. Haimov-Kochman, Brzezinski and Hochner-Celnikier, Hadassah Hebrew U. Hospital, Jerusalem, Isreal.
---
"Conclusions: On the basis of experimental data, the use of 300 [milligrams per kilogram**] of black cohosh [as alternative medicine] appears quite safe in [animals.] Nevertheless, in humans the safety of [black cohosh] should be further monitored, in terms of patient-related factors."

From: Phytomedicine, April 21, 2008. By: Drs. Mazzanti, Di Sotto, Mannola, et al., Dept. of Human Phsiology and Pharma., Sapienza U of Rome, P. le Aldo Moro, 5, 00185, Rome, Italy.

** Refers to a daily dose. A kilogram equals 2.2 lbs. In your editor's view, an excessive dose.
