IRON AND HEART DISEASE
"Background and Purpose--Several
studies have provided evidence for a relationship between body iron load
and cardiovascular disease. We analyzed the association of 'blood]
ferritin 'one of the chief forms that iron is stored in the body] levels
with 'degeneration of the arteries, atherosclerosis]...
"Results--... both
men and women showed a dose-response relationship 'higher the levels the
greater the occurrence] between 'blood] ferritin levels...'and the
prevalence of plaques in the arteries of the head and neck.]
Editor's
note--the plaques would indicate heart disease may be developing.
